Let me start by introducing myself. My name is Jodie and some people may say I have a book reading problem (these people are clearly crazy). If you are reading this then you likely suffer from the same affliction where reading books can sometimes take over your life. This is not, I repeat, is NOT a bad thing. I am a wife to a handy husband and mum of two to some crazy boys (aka Tweedledee and Tweedledum) and live on the beautiful east coast of Australia. I love to take a minute (or 60) to sit down with a cup of tea and a chocolatey treat and have a bit of me time, while I am whisked away to another land by turning the pages of a book.
My love for reading started when I was in high school. My friends and I always had a YA books on loan from the library. Reading was just a thing that we all did and we all loved. As I grew up my taste in books changed and now I wouldn’t say that I am a genre specific reader. I enjoy reading YA, drama, chick lit, science fiction, romance, mystery or fantasy novels primarily. On occasion I am drawn to a good true story but I steer away from anything that is too dark because firstly I am a bit of a scaredy cat and secondly I feel that watching the news is enough of a glimpse into the minds of sickos for me.
I also have a love for old and rare books, even if they are not something that I would typically read. I appreciate the craftsmanship, the beauty and that something can actually last for hundreds of year. My phone is lucky to make two years let alone two hundred! My goal is to one day acquire an illuminated book. It is a bit hard to justify spending that amount of money on a book at present but one day I will own one and I will put it high high high up on my bookshelf so my childrens grubby little hands can’t touch it.
Of course there is more to me than books. I drink tea, not coffee. Prefer dogs rather than cats (and have a hilarious rescue dog called Zoe). Before becoming a stay at home mum to my adorable little boys I had a career as an analyst, it probably sounds boring but it wasn’t. My all time favourite band has been the Backstreet Boys since I was a teenager and pop music just makes me smile. If I am watching TV it is normally a house renovating show (I have to get ideas for things that my husband can make for me!), Greys Anatomy, Game of Thrones or Outlander (or re runs of Hart of Dixie). I am a keen baker. I can knock out a croquembouche, wedding cakes (I even made my own) and some a-mazing dairy free cupcakes. I started baking when I was at university studying my Bachelor of Business. I wasn’t the most astute student. When I should have been doing assessments or studying I was baking, and then eating what I baked. I have no idea how I got good grades and didn’t blow out to the size of a house!
Anyhow that is enough about me for now. Go check out my reviews page and see what I thought of my latest read.
Happy reading x
