Three women celebrate their birthdays… 30. 40. 50. But this milestone birthday marks the start of a year that will change everything…
Ginger isn’t spending her thirtieth the way she would have planned. Tonight might be the first night of the rest of her life – or a total disaster.
Sam is finally pregnant after years of trying. When her waters break on the morning of her fortieth birthday, she panics: forget labour, how is she going to be a mother?
Callie is celebrating her fiftieth at a big party in her Dublin home. Then a knock at the door mid-party changes everything…
Three women, three birthdays, one year that will change everything…
Gosh I love Cathy Kelly. She just knows how to deliver satisfying contemporary fiction every time. This is a brilliant book about strong women. These strong female leads have resilience, integrity, courage and confidence. All of their lives take a turn that isn’t to plan but they way that they work through the unexpected is not only completely entertaining but also inspiring.
I know we probably aren’t supposed to have favourites but Ginger was mine. I could probably relate most to Sam’s story, being a person who could organise my work life so well it was a bit daunting having a child and not know what the hell I was supposed to do. But Ginger was just so incredibly likeable and inspirational. Seeing her character development was my favourite thing about this book. She blossomed from someone with limited self confidence to a person who was just kicking goals. Plus, her story had a killer romance!
Overall this is a fantastic book that highlights the beauty of female friendship and the strength of the feminine spirit. Fans of Cathy Kelly won’t be disappointed and if you haven’t picked up a Cathy Kelly book before I recommend to give it a go.
