My Review

Being the second book that I have read from Josephine Moon I was expecting it to be good, I was right, but what I wasn’t expecting was how captivated I have become with the concept of bee keeping. To the point of where I have asked my husband for an Australian native bee hive for my birthday. I definitely wasn’t expecting that to come out of reading this book. Moon managed to have me equality captivated by the story and by the necessity of bees. The later of which was something I knew on a facts based level but I don’t think I truly appreciated.

Maria’s story is heart breaking and it tackles a very difficult and confronting topic. Moon has done an outstanding job portraying a fictional event that lends itself to a very sad reality. She has done this in a such a way that is captivating but in no way feels like a bashing of the Catholic Church.

Tansy’s story is somewhat more light-hearted and works to take down the heavy nature of the underlying topic. Yes she has her own problems (who doesn’t?) but her personality means that she tackles them in an amusing way.

This is a brilliant read and has definitely left an impact on me as a reader. It is probably fitting for me to name my Queen Bee Josephine and not Beyoncé (which would be the obvious choice. Obviously 😏).

Overall Rating: cupcupcupcup 4/5 teacups
